1st TUES – 16.20 | OPEN CAPTIONED SCREENING: THE GOLDFINCH
Donna Tartt’s novel comes to life on the big screen with a starry cast including Nicole Kidman and Sarah Paulson. Presented with captions for the hearing impaired.

1st TUES – 19.30 | THE THIRD MAN 70th ANNIVERSARY SCREENING
Celebrate 70 years since the release of the Carol Reed classic starring Joseph Cotten, Alida Valli, Orson Welles, and Trevor Howard, with a special screening including an extensive introduction and post-film discussion.

2nd WED – 20.10 | ROGER WATERS: US + THEM
Roger Waters, co-founder, creative force and songwriter behind Pink Floyd, presents his highly anticipated film, Us + Them, featuring state-of-the-art visual production and breathtaking sound.

3rd THUR – 18.30 | LOSING ALASKA + Q&A
Due to rising temperatures, the village of Newtok, Alaska is slowly vanishing into the sea. Tom Burke (The Liberties, Shooting the Darkness) embedded himself in the community to make this intimate observational study of a small town facing the big problem of climate change. Includes director Q&A.

4th FRI – 20.20 | IFI & DAFF 2019: THE REPORTS ON SARAH AND SALEEM
Saleem (Adeeb Safadi), a Palestinian deliveryman and Sarah (Sivane Kretchner), an Israeli café owner, are engaged in a clandestine affair as both seek to escape the pressures of their respective marriages. When a late-night tryst, an international crisis looms.

5th SAT – 15.30 | IFI & DAFF 2019: THE POETESS
The Poetess tells the story of a woman who grabs the opportunity to speak up against religious extremism and stand up for a peaceful Islam, Hissa Hilal.

5th SAT – 17.30 | IFI & DAFF 2019: THE DAY I LOST MY SHADOW
Sana sets out on a quest to find supplies to feed her sick child. On the journey she experiences the kindness of strangers, but also her worst fears. She also learns that people can lose their shadows, as though the trauma of war causes them to lose something of themselves.

6th SUN – 13.20 | IFI & DAFF 2019: THE TOWER
A collection of stories focussed on a young Palestinian girl, trying to make sense of her history by talking to members of her family, including her beloved great-grandfather who was one of the first to arrive in 1948.

6th SUN – 15.20 | IFI & DAFF 2019: BURNOUT + Q&A
The interconnected destinies of three disparate characters in the Moroccan metropolis of Casablanca are explored in Nour Eddine Lakhmari’s gripping drama. Followed by a Q&A with director Nour Eddine Lakhmari and producer Kadija Alami.

7th MON – 18.30 | IFI & FESTIVAL OF HISTORY: ALCOCK & BROWN: THE TRUE STORY + Q&A
This is a free but ticketed event. Join us for the Dublin premiere of this feature documentary telling the story of Captain John Alcock and Lieutenant Arthur Brown who made the first non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean from Newfoundland to Clifden in June 1919. The screening will be attended by director Kevin Glynn.

8th TUES – EVENING COURSE

From his great passion for East Asian action film, IFI projectionist Paul Markey has chosen this example of the wuxia genre for October’s Bigger Picture.

17th THUR – 18.30 | PREVIEW: DARK LIES THE ISLAND + Q&A
This preview of the new Irish film from the stories by Kevin Barry will be followed by a Q&A with director Ian Fitzgibbon and novelist Barry, hosted by Mary Kate O’Flanagan, Story Consultant, Storyteller, Screenwriter.

21st MON – 18.15 | IFI FRENCH FILM CLUB: NON-FICTION
The latest from Olivier Assayas stars Guillaume Canet and Juliette Binoche as a couple in an affectionate satire on the Parisian literary scene, raising thought-provoking questions of authenticity in a playful fashion.

A special screening of Olivier Assayas’s new film starring Guillaume Canet and Juliette Binoche which includes a unique main course from the IFI Café Bar. The menu will include a choice of Beef Bourguignon, Pan Seared Hake with Leeks and Lemon Caper Butter, and French Bean Casserole.

24th THUR – IFI HORRORTHON 2019
Ireland biggest and best genre festival is back, with a massive 35 Irish premieres including Richard Stanley’s Color Out of Space starring a demented Nicolas Cage and opener Little Monsters with Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong-o. We have shorts and guests and scares aplenty, come along!

25th FRI – 11.00 | WILD STRAWBERRIES: BLINDED BY THE LIGHT
That music can change a life is no unusual theme, but it’s not so often the result is a drama touching on politics, family and race, as well as being a poignant comingof-age story too, all inspired by the music of Bruce Springsteen.

27th SUN – 11.00 | IFI FAMILY: RETURN FROM WITCH MOUNTAIN
Get your mid-term break off to a zinging start with this sequel to Disney’s Escape to Witch Mountain. Tia and Tony are the orphaned brother and sister with special powers who land on Earth for a holiday. Their paths cross with Victor, Christopher Lee’s demented scientist, and his scheming accomplice Letha (Bette Davis) who are out for WORLD DOMINATION!

30th WED – 18.30 | IRISH FOCUS: LOST LIVES
Lost Lives is an ambitious cinematic film inspired by the book of the same name. Written over seven years by five journalists, it is a book recording the circumstances of every single death in the Northern Irish Troubles: 3,700 entries document 3,700 lost lives. Includes Q&A with the directors.

30th WED – 18.30 | IFI & AEMI: GEORGE CLARK: SITES & RITES
Sites & Rites is a new configuration of artist George Clark’s ongoing ‘Eyemo rolls’ project, a series that interleaves his 35mm film footage with works by other artists.

31st THUR – 18.30 | FROM THE VAULTS: BLACK DAY AT BLACK ROCK
The community of Black Rock is divided by the news that the town is soon to become home to 30 asylum seekers. A town meeting hears the concerns of those with complaints of ‘lack of consultation’ and fear of ‘murdering rapists’ and from others who are looking forward to ‘something different – a bit of craic’. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Gerard Stembridge and people with experience of Direct Provision.
