4th MON – 20.35 | OPEN CAPTIONED SCREENING: GREEN BOOK
New York, 1962: when nightclub bouncer Tony (Viggo Mortensen) finds himself out of work, he answers an advert to chauffeur renowned African American classical pianist Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) through a tour of the Deep South where the refined musician will need a measure of protection. Presented with Open Captions for the hearing impaired.

5th TUES – 20.20 | IFI & CHINESE NEW YEAR FESTIVAL: THREE ADVENTURES OF BROOK
Yuan Qing’s delicate, playful feature debut takes us on three possible stories of discovery with Brooke, a young woman from Beijing while she visits Alor Setar, a beautiful city in Northern Malaysia. Presented by the East Asia Film Festival Ireland, in association with the Dublin Chinese New Year Festival.

8th FRI – 18.10 | ALL IS TRUE + Q&A
Kenneth Branagh will be at the Irish Film Institute to talk about his new film as director which also sees him playing the central role of William Shakespeare in his later life. This event is now SOLD OUT.

10th SUN – 13.00 | MYSTERY MATINEE
The ultimate surprise film – no clues and tickets are just €5.20.

A young man endures a prolonged retreat in a gay conversion therapy centre in Joel Edgerton’s empathetic second feature, starring Lucas Hedges, Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman. Presented with Open Captions for the hearing impaired.

11th MON – 18.15 | JUMP GIRLS + Q&A
There is only one major professional sport where women and men go head to head for the same prizes… horse racing and this documentary charts the success of the brave women who are challenging the male-domination of this remorselessly tough world. Filmmakers and key contributors will attend the screening.

12th TUES – 13.00 | OPEN CAPTIONED SCREENING: ALL IS TRUE
Kenneth Branagh directs and stars in this emotional portrait of the later years of playwright William Shakespeare. As he retires to Stratford in the wake of the Globe fire, the writer examines his life and tries to reconnect with his estranged family. Also starring Judy Dench and Ian McKellen, from a script by Ben Elton. Presented with Open Captions for the hearing impaired.

12th TUES – 18.30 | THE BIGGER PICTURE: RED DUST
From a time when ‘women’s pictures’ were the backbone of Hollywood studios, and countless films were released centering on strong female characters, albeit in a man’s world, comes this steamy smash hit starring Clark Gable and Jean Harlow. Introduced by Dr. Megan McGurk.

We Ourselves is a formally unconventional film dealing with the lives of a group of seven friends over a period of more than two decades. Starring Caitríona Ennis, Gavin Drea, Seána Kerslake, Paul Reid, Catherine Walker, Aidan Gillen and Declan Conlon. This screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Paul Mercier and guests.

19th TUES – 18.20 | IFI FILM CLUB: A PRIVATE WAR
Having directed acclaimed documentaries about some of the world’s most dangerous places, Matthew Heineman makes an apt feature debut with the story of Marie Colvin (played by Rosamunde Pike), the Sunday Times war correspondent who died in 2012 covering the atrocities of the Syrian war. Join us for a discussion after the screening.

20th WED – 11.00 | THE WIFE (WILD STRAWBERRIES)
Back due to popular demand, Glenn Close is Oscar-nominated for her performance in this acclaimed drama about a woman who has given her whole life to support her author husband, played by Jonathan Pryce. Over 55s film club, tickets €4.45 including tea or coffee.

20th WED – 18.30 | FROM THE VAULTS: BROTH OF A BOY
In this early whimsical comedy filmed in the fledgling Ardmore Studios, 110-year-old Patrick Farrell (Barry Fitzgerald) lives in the quaint little village of Ballymorrissey. When he is discovered by a British producer determined to make a TV special about the oldest man in the world, truculent Farrell, a widely-disliked poacher, is determined to avoid the TV cameras at any cost.

20th WED – 18.40 | FEAST YOUR EYES: ALL IS TRUE
Kenneth Branagh’s new drama about William Shakespeare is presented with a specially prepared meal for just €21. The menu will include a choice of Steak and Kidney Pie served with mash, Fish and Chips, and Vegetarian Wellington.

24th SUN – 11.00 | IFI FAMILY: PEE WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE
With excitement surrounding Tim Burton’s forthcoming film, a live-action version of the classic Dumbo, we take a look back at his first feature. This irrepressible adventure, and now cult classic, gave us many of the elements which would become hallmarks of the highly original filmmaker. Tickets: €5.00 per person, €15.00 family.

25th MON – 18.30 | IFI & VMDIFF 2019: FLOATING STRUCTURES + Q&A
Floating Structures follows a researcher travelling across central and southern Europe seeking out an array of buildings and structures that seem as though they have emerged from another world, inspired by the work of the great Irish engineer Peter Rice. Directors Feargal Ward and Adrian Duncan will attend this screening.

26th TUES – 18.30 | IFI & VMDIFF 2019: WHAT TIME IS DEATH? + Q&A
In 2017, Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty, formerly known as The KLF, returned after 23 years of silence – but they were no longer a pop group. They were now undertakers, planning to build a monument, The People’s Pyramid, out of 34,952 bricks made from the remains of dead people and make November 23rd in Liverpool known as ‘The Toxteth Day of the Dead.’ Director Paul Duane will attend this screening.

28th THURS – 10.30 | IFI & VMDIFF 2019: CAREERS IN SCREEN DAY           
Following the huge success of last year’s inaugural event, IFI and the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival with the kind support of Screen Skills Ireland and BAI, will once again offer an inspiring and innovative day of events for young people interested in finding out more about working in the film industry. The first guests confirmed for the 2019 event are Lenny Abrahamson, the Oscar-nominated director of Room, Adam and Paul, Frank, and The Little Stranger and Consolata Boyle, three time Oscar-nominated costume designer of The Queen, Florence Foster Jenkins and Victoria & Abdul.
