Coinciding with the IFI’s full retrospective of Neil Jordan’s cinematic work throughout the month of May, the IFI will be displaying rarely-seen documents donated by Neil Jordan to the IFI Irish Film Archive.
One of the most important and substantial document collections held by the IFI Irish Film Archive is that of director Neil Jordan. In 2006 Jordan began the process of transferring his papers to the Archive, on a film- by-film basis. The collection is now held in the Archive’s climate controlled vaults for long term preservation, and has been meticulously catalogued by Archive staff, so that it is accessible to researchers wishing to study Jordan’s career. The material held for each film is broad and comprehensive; it includes background research, production files, stills, draft scripts, set design and storyboards, all of which give a fascinating insight into the creative process of one of Ireland’s most acclaimed directors. The collection can be viewed by appointment at the IFI, for more information see http://www.ifi.ie/learn/research-library/.
Keep an eye out for updates as the collection will be expanded throughout the month.
Neil Jordan Retrospective runs throughout May. His new film, Byzantium, opens on May 31st.
