Following the huge success of last year’s inaugural event, the IFI and the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival will once again offer an inspiring and innovative day of events for young people interested in finding out more about working in the film industry. This year’s Careers in Screen Day will take place on Thursday, February 28th from 10.30 – tickets are now on sale from www.ifi.ie/careers-2019.
The first guest confirmed for the 2019 event is Lenny Abrahamson, the Oscar-nominated director of Room, Adam and Paul, Frank, and The Little Stranger.
This event, aimed at Senior Cycle second-level students aged 15 to 18, is an opportunity for students to hear from a whole variety of film industry practitioners, to learn about their work, how they got there and what advice they might give to young people starting out. Whether it’s the craft side of the industry, working in front of the camera or behind, as well as other areas such as production or casting, there will be something for every interest.
A number of third-level institutions will also be on hand to offer guidance on the day.
Last year’s guests included actor Moe Dunford, costume designer Joan Bergin, cinematographer Richard Hendricks, director-editor Emer Reynolds, casting agent Louise Kiely, and Brown Bag Films animator Darragh O’Connell.
Tickets cost €5.50 per person from www.ifi.ie/careers-2019. Careers In Screen Day is presented by the Irish Film Institute and Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival with the kind support of Screen Skills Ireland and BAI.
IFI is principally funded by the Arts Council.
