Thirteen years after the closure of The Filmmakers, Lupino was finally afforded the chance to direct again, for what would turn out to be her final film in the position.

Marking a break in both style and content from her previous work, The Trouble With Angels is a charming and amusing comedy in the vein of the English series of films set in St. Trinian’s. Here, Hayley Mills plays a rebellious teenager in an all-girls Catholic boarding school who comes into frequent conflict with Mother Superior (Rosalind Russell) before eventually coming to appreciate her selflessness.

Screening as part of a season dedicated to the groundbreaking work of Ida Lupino, from March 7th to 25th 2018 at the Irish Film Institute. Click here for details of the full season.
