March 7th 2018: The IFI is proud to announce a very special screening of Robin Campillo’s award-winning film 120 BPM (Beats Per Minute) at 20.00 on Saturday, April 7th in association with ACT UP Dublin.
120 BPM (Beats Per Minute), winner of six César Awards and the Jury Prize at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, is set in the 1990s at the height of France’s AIDS epidemic. The film follows the grassroots ACT UP campaign of agitation against a pharmaceutical company that refuses to reveal its findings on potentially effective new drugs. Against this backdrop, the HIV-positive Sean, one of the group’s founders, begins a tentative romance with gentle newcomer Nathan, who has tested negative for the virus.
120 BPM (Beats Per Minute) is by turns a beautifully observed love story and a fiercely engaged political work that simmers with quiet anger.
The screening will be followed by an ACT UP Dublin event for ticketholders in a transformed IFI lobby, with music provided by DJ Shrem. Concessions for reduced entry will also be available to nightclub Mother that evening.
Tickets priced €8.50 for IFI members and €9.50 for non-members are now available from the IFI Box Office at 01-6793477 or here.
