ABOUT THE SHORT COURSE IN FILM

The Junior Cycle Short Course in Film has been developed in the context of the Junior Cycle Framework. It links directly with the Statements of Learning and is intended for 100 hours of student engagement. The Short Course is an exciting opportunity for Junior Cycle students to actively engage with film and to further their creative self-expression through filmmaking projects.

This course originated with a pilot project delivered by a number of teachers, and was developed in collaboration with FÍS Film Project and Fresh Film Festival. It comprises three interconnected strands – Exploring, Creating and Sharing film. Students acquire an understanding of film language through watching film; they apply this learning to filmmaking projects and then share these with their peers.

This short course has been developed in accordance with the NCCA template and guidelines.
