Raheny, Dublin, 1979. 13-year-old Maeve Brennan (Ailish McCarthy) dons a new bra and steps out into the world as a young woman. She and her friends, Ruth (Sophie Jo Wasson), Claire (Riona Smith), and Orla (Orla Long), all more experienced than she in the ways of the world, enjoy a busy whirl of school, household duties, and hanging out. All is harmonious until Maeve has a romantic encounter with the local heartthrob Brian Power (Shane McDaid), thereby jeopardising their friendship and catapulting her into a difficult moral dilemma.

Period detail and the minutiae of suburban teenage life are perfectly rendered in Marian Quinn’s debut feature, which oozes with charm and poignancy.
