Irish Film Institute -RIP MARTHA O’NEILL

RIP MARTHA O’NEILL

We are deeply saddened at IFI to learn of the passing of award-winning film and television producer Martha O’Neill. Her work across film, TV drama, and feature documentary, under her production company Wildfire Films, covered a broad variety of topics and subjects, and was always produced to the highest of standards. Much of her work screened at IFI including About Beauty (director Conor Horgan, 2008); Town of Strangers (director, Treasa O’Brien, 2018) and, most recently, the powerful Stolen (directed by Margo Harkin, 2023). Not only was Martha a prolific producer, but she was also a great friend to the IFI. Martha served on the IFI Board of Directors from 1988 to 2005, and was Chairperson of the Board from 1998 to 2003. Following the end of her Board term in 2005, Martha remained on the IFI Council, always willing to offer advice and support to anyone at IFI who needed it.

The whole IFI team, including our Board of Directors and staff, extend our deepest sympathies to Martha’s wife Garry Hynes, and all of her family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult time.

We will miss Martha at IFI, but all of her unwavering support and encouragement will never be forgotten.
