Special Preview and Meal Deal for St. Valentine’s Day!

If you’re looking to treat your leading man or leading lady to some on-screen romance this Valentine’s Day, the IFI has it sorted with a special preview screening of Jim Jarmusch’s haunting and achingly romantic new vampire movie Only Lovers Left Alive (15A, Feb 14th 20.30) and a fantastic meal deal in the IFI Café Bar. Treat yourself to a ticket to the Only Lovers Left Alive preview + two courses from the delicious Valentine’s Day menu for just €22 per person.  (Note: Combined meal and tickets cannot be booked online. See special booking details below.) Alternatively, simply get two courses from the Valentine’s Day menu for just €15.95.

About the film
Only Lovers Left Alive stars Tom Hiddleston as Adam, an underground musician living in self-imposed exile in desolate Detroit while surrounding himself with his music, vintage guitars, recording equipment and vinyl records. Depressed at the state of the world and the limits of the human imagination, he is cause for concern for his estranged lover Eve (Tilda Swinton), who travels from Tangiers to be by his side. As the story progresses, it emerges that this couple’s extraordinary love affair has endured for centuries, that they have witnessed societies rise and fall, and that they fear for the modern world. When Eve’s wild mischievous sister Eva (Mia Wasikowska) makes an unwelcome appearance, the couple become ever more anxious. A keenly awaited new release from Jarmusch, this is a vampire film that plays with conventions while still embracing the essential existential heart of the genre. The film is released at the IFI on the 21st February 2014.

It’s not only Valentine’s Day itself that sees the IFI embracing romance this February. All month the IFI’s FREE Archive at Lunchtime screenings will be showing romantic gems from the IFI Irish Film Archives including Learning to Love, a Radharc documentary about pre-marriage courses in 1974; the popular 1955 Oscar-nominated short Three Kisses, about a Cork hurler falling in love; and Róisín Loughrey’s exquisite short documentary from 2003 about the relationship between two trapeze artists. Archive at Lunchtime programmes run on Monday and Wednesday with a Double Bill on Saturdays.
