WHITNEY

Director: Kevin MacDonald

120 mins. 2018, UK-USA. Digital.

This film was released 6th July 2018, and is no longer screening.

The extraordinary and tragic life of Whitney Houston is explored with great insight and subtlety by Oscar-winning director Kevin MacDonald (One Day in September, 1999; Touching The Void, 2003) in this richly contextualised portrait that digs deeper than most biopics in an effort to understand the causes that led to the singer’s destructive co-dependent relationships and lifelong substance abuse.

With extensive access to family, friends and collaborators, MacDonald’s portrait of the artist is a layered, three dimensional experience, the investigative rigour he brings to bear on the material being underpinned by a deep respect and admiration for his prodigiously talented subject.
