The new film from director Tomasz Wasilewski (In a Bedroom, Floating Skyscrapers) marks a significant step forward in his development as a filmmaker. Exquisitely framed, shot in washed-out pastels, the film’s distinctive and melancholic look is well suited to its main characters, four women (and four exceptional performances) struggling to find and maintain intimate connections in the aftermath of the fall of Communism.

Agata (Julia Kijowska) is in love with her priest, drawing away from her husband, with the exception of occasional, anger-fuelled sex; Iza (Magdalena Cielecka) has been engaged in a long-term secret affair with a married man who, after the death of his wife, no longer seems interested in her, despite her attempts to lure him back; and lonely retiree Renata (Dorota Kolak) is fixated on the similarly lonely Marzena (Marta Nieradkiewicz), whose husband lives in West Germany.
