Four older men share an unassuming house in an isolated Chilean fishing village; cared for by a housekeeper, they live discrete, secluded lives, using their free time to train a greyhound for competitive racing. They are disgraced priests, removed by the church from society for perpetrating sexual abuses against minors. A fifth member is inducted into the house, but an incident involving this new priest sees a crisis counsellor dispatched to interrogate the members of ‘The Club’, threatening to derail their comfortable exile in the process.

Following his trilogy of films dealing with the impact of the Pinochet dictatorship on Chilean society – Tony Manero (2008); Post Mortem (2010); No (2012) – The Club cements Pablo Larrain’s position as one of the finest directors working today; it is a challenging, brilliantly conceived and timely allegory of a church haunted by scandals and cover ups.
