To celebrate the arrival of a new 4K restoration of A Fistful of Dollars, the IFI is delighted to welcome back some of the most influential Westerns ever made to the big screen.
Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy will screen on successive Sundays in April 2018. This coincides with a new restoration of 1964 classic A Fistful of Dollars. The work was undertaken by Cineteca di Bologna and Unidis Jolly Film (the film’s original producer and distributor) using the original Techniscope negative with a 1964 Technicolor print as reference, under the supervision of cinematographer Ennio Guarneri.
As you can see the film looks incredibly detailed in this restored edition.
A Fistful of Dollars was only Leone’s second film but its influence has been felt around the world for decades, and the success helped to push a sequel into rapid production. For a Few Dollars More followed in 1965, while the epic, unparalleled The Good, the Bad and the Ugly closed out the trilogy in 1966.
