CASABLANCA

Director: Michael Curtiz

USA ,1943, Drama/Romance, 102min

This iconic film is an excellent addition to the Comparative Study. Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) is a cynical American nightclub owner escaping the war in Europe and living in the French-controlled Moroccan city of Casablanca. He becomes the bearer of important travel permits and when his ex-lover Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman) arrives from Paris with her fugitive husband Victor Laszlo, Rick’s sheltered world collapses and he is faced with tough decisions. A story about love, conflict and virtue, with one of the most famous and referenced endings in film history.
