Meg Rosoff’s novel is effectively adapted by Kevin MacDonald (Touching the Void, Marley). Daisy (Saoirse Ronan) is a fed-up teen from New York who joins her cousins Piper, Edmond, Isaac and Osbert in the English countryside. World War Three is rumbling and after Aunt Penn gets called away on a peace mission, the young people’s world is adult-free. Daisy and Piper become close but when war separates the group, Daisy becomes a fugitive in her endeavour to reunite the family.
