Heart-warming and universal, The Snapper sees a family come together to face the challenges of an unplanned pregnancy. Twenty years old and single, Sharon Curley (Tina Kellegher) finds herself stunning her family, including father Dessie (Colm Meaney) with the news that a drunken night has her pregnant with the titular ‘Snapper’. Refusing to reveal the father’s identity Sharon becomes the subject of her whole community’s speculation, whilst the family themselves wrestle with their feelings and the effect they feel Sharon’s news has on their position in the community. Adapted from Roddy Doyle’s novel of the same name, this comedy is honest rather than histrionic, and authentically captures the nature of the Curley’s hard-drinking, gossip-friendly, working class community.
