Celebrating the true story of a man who used music to stand up to political and religious violence, Good Vibrations sees Belfast music lover Terri Hooley defy the Troubles by opening a record store and becoming the godfather of Northern Ireland’s punk scene. Barely escaping with his life from paramilitaries, Hooley (Richard Dormer) and his wife Ruth (Jodie Whittaker) scramble together enough money to open a record store, naming it ‘Good Vibrations’ and turning it into the hub around which Northern Ireland’s non-sectarian, anti-violence punk scene revolves. Struggling with political and personal opposition, Hooley launches the careers of punk bands, including ‘The Undertones’, until financial problems threaten his dream of a music loving Ulster. Unfolding with a gleeful spirit reflective of Hooley himself, this exuberant biopic champions a man who rejecting violence in favour of keeping alive the culture of a city.
