Inheriting the family farm after his father’s death, twenty-six year old Donal Durkan (Domhnall Gleeson) starts what quickly becomes a personal relationship with prostitute, Kim (Luanne Gordon). Growing closer, Donal allows Kim to hide away from thugs on his farm and the pair becomes unlikely business partners in combining their talents and resources in establishing a rural brothel. As Donal struggles to accept Kim’s work as a prostitute their relationship begins to be compromised by mistrust and betrayal. Drawing principally on bleak topics such as rural isolation, prostitution, and sexual frustration, Sensation is both a black comedy and a moral story about a young man belatedly making choices about the kind of man he wants to be.
