The challenge of maintaining neutrality when violence rages is put under scrutiny in this powerful feature from director, Joe Comerford. Benny (Marc O’Shea) is a teenage outsider sent to a school in the Republic to escape the Troubles in Northern Ireland. The school’s Matron (Frances Tomelty) is sympathetic towards Benny but cannot protect him when the IRA suspects him of being an informant after tensions are stoked by the murder of a real informer. Comerford utilises striking imagery to depict the horror of a seemingly interminable conflict, capturing the terrifying emotional realities of the Troubles.
