As the end of year may bring thoughts of new fitness regimes, this drama based on real life events from the makers of Free Solo depicts the power of determination and self-belief in realising what are seen to be unachievable goals. Marathon swimmer Diana Nyad (Annette Bening) arrives at 60 realising she has not achieved her aim of swimming from Cuba to Florida, a feat she first attempted some decades previously. With her best friend and coach, Bonnie (Jodie Foster), she starts to train. The pair are brilliant to watch, wisecracking, quarrelsome, resilient, joining forces with sailors and medics, all determined to fulfil Diane’s dream. It’s an exhilarating watch, even if you never intend to go near the water.

The screening on Wednesday 27th will have open captions.
