Director: PETE DOCTER, BOB PETERSON

96 minutes, U.S.A., 2009, Animated, Colour, D-Cinema

This film screened on Monday 13th  July 2015.

As a young boy, Carl Fredricksen meets Ellie, a fellow fan of explorer Charles Muntz. Thus begins their life together, depicted in a breathtakingly moving montage, and ending with Carl (now voiced by Ed Asner) in mourning.

In an attempt to realise one of his and Ellie’s greatest but unfulfilled wishes, he uses thousands of helium balloons to convert his house into an airship, with the aim of travelling to South America, accidentally bringing with him a stowaway, Russell, a young Wilderness Explorer.

With a premise that nods to Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo (1982), Pixar once again managed to create a film of universal appeal.
