AFTERNOON TALKS: DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKING

August’s Afternoon Talk will take place during IFI Stranger Than Fiction, Dublin’s Documentary Film Festival, and will take a broad look at documentary – the opportunities available and the challenges for independent documentary filmmakers.

IFI Stranger Than Fiction programmer and documentary filmmaker Ross Whitakerwill lead this informal discussion, alongside Festival guests including Bart Layton, director of the thrilling festival opener The Imposter . Taking the subjects and styles of the films featured in this year’s IFI Stranger Than Fiction as a starting point, we’ll discuss the creative draw of the documentary, the form’s unique artistic qualities, and its potential as a catalyst for social change. We’ll also discuss the current strength of Irish documentary-making and what it takes for independent filmmakers to get their documentaries made, from their initial conception, funding and shooting to distribution.

This event is FREE but ticketed. Please book your seat when visiting, by emailing the IFI Box Office at boxoffice@irishfilm.ie or by calling 01 679 3477.
