Wild Strawberries is our film club for older people. During the present refurbishment of the IFI, we will schedule one Sunday screening per month and also offer €5 tickets for Wild Strawberries members to films within the Hitchcock Season (excluding The Lodger/Blackmail double bill). Bookings for the Sunday screening can be made from October 1st through the box office on 01 679 3477. Tickets for the Wild Strawberry screening cost e4 which includes a regular tea/coffee.
In this warm and humorous film, the middle-aged Gianni (played by director Gianni Di Gregorio) shares a cramped flat with his glamorous elderly mother. When they fall behind with the rent, the landlord agrees to waive it on condition that Gianni looks after his mother for the holiday. She turns up with her sister and then the local doctor also offloads his mother. The four women have to be somehow accommodated with their various requirements while Gianni has to mediate their squabbles and sort out the meal. While Di Gregorio extracts wry comedy from the son’s mounting panic, he’s also attuned to the pathos and frustrations of old age.
