Wild Strawberries is our bimonthly film club for the over 55s.

In an English country house between the wars, Colin Firth and Kristin Scott Thomas are the parents of impulsively-married John who brings his new American wife, Larita, home to meet them. This Noel Coward comedy-of-manners reveals a sharp side to the respectable exterior of the Whittaker family, particularly Mrs Whittaker and John’s two sisters, whose snobbishness refuses to countenance that Larita may actually be a good match. Only haunted WW1 veteran Colonel Whittaker shows any empathy as he potters about his workshop. When a secret from Larita’s past is revealed, any illusion of calm is shattered. Previously adapted by Alfred Hitchcock during the silent era in 1928, this version is complete with great performances and setting, and the eclectic soundtrack is a treat.
