Wild Strawberries is our bimonthly film club for the over 55s.

Just when you want to put your stocking away for another year, we bring you this Christmas story starring the indomitable Catherine Deneuve, seen most wonderfully earlier this year in Potiche. In the tradition of such seasonal films, it’s a grand gathering of the Vuillard family, comprising parents Junon (Deneuve) and Abel; daughter Elizabeth and her son Paul; Henri and a girlfriend; Ivan, his wife Sylvia and their young sons; and cousin Simon. We know it’s not going to be smooth: Elizabeth had banished Henri after paying his debts; Paul has psychiatric problems; but Junon has brought them all together as she needs a bone marrow transplant and one of the family could be a match.

Feuds, many toasts, conversations and Junon contemplating her decision follow. Long but highly absorbing, you’ll be ready to take down the tree after this one.

€€3.85 including tea/coffee before the screening.
