Peter (Hugh Jackman) has become accustomed to success – a high-flying lawyer with a new baby with his partner, Beth (Vanessa Kirby), and a designer Manhattan apartment, he is considering a prestigious move into politics when some disturbing news gives him pause. Nicholas (Zen McGrath), his 17-year-old son from his first marriage to Kate (Laura Dern), is struggling with recurring depression and has been absent from school for weeks at a time; Kate is hopeful that the boy’s interest in his new sibling will raise his spirits and it is decided that Nicolas will move in with his father, where the boy seems to thrive, at least initially. Academy Award-winning writer-director Florian Zeller follows up his triumphant The Father with an adaptation of his internationally renowned play, the second in a trilogy of theatrical works dealing with familial traumas.
