Irish Film Institute -The Runway

The Runway

Director: Ian Power

The Runway is based on a true story of self-taught Spanish speaker Paco (Jamie Kierans), who finds himself turned translator when Colombian Ernesto (Demian Bichir) crash lands near Paco’s village of Dromoleen. With an absent father, Paco immediately takes to Ernesto and encourages the town to come together and build the runway needed to get the pilot’s plane back in the sky. Finding his chances of getting home improving, Ernesto grows close to both his young saviour and his mother Grace (Kerry Condon), proving to be the father figure Paco has been waiting for. Using its real life basis as a starting point, The Runway turns its raw materials into a heart-warming drama about an unexpected visitor finding a second home in a family and a town changed utterly by his arrival.
