This documentary offered voice to an angry, disillusioned and apathetic young population that had been fragmented by emigration and unemployment during a period of wide-spread economic hardship in Ireland. Financed by Channel 4 and later shown by RTE, ‘The Road to God Knows Where’ injected energy into Irish documentary-making in the stagnant 1980s, as it dealt frankly and unapologetically with difficult subject matter.
