Stunning Portuguese locations provide the backdrop for this poignant and ultimately uplifting story of a gay drag queen who returns to his hometown after the tragic death of his lover. Re-introducing himself to a family long left behind, he encounters the unexpected support of his sister and the inspirational friendship of his teenage nephew who has Down’s Syndrome. But he still has to face the past in the form of his resentful father and the fiancee he left at the altar to pursue a queer life in the city. The Other Side is a moving and hopeful film, exploring the stigmas that banish people to the edges of society and shining a light on the understanding and love that brings us back from that edge.
