During the bright Nordic summer, a group of young friends reveal their dark and mysterious powers when the adults aren’t looking. The Innocents follows four children living in a drab Norwegian housing estate who become friends during the summer holidays, and who gradually discover they have supernatural attributes. While exploring their newfound abilities in the nearby forests and playgrounds, their innocent play takes a darker turn and strange and sinister happenings begin to occur. Following his Sundance and Berlin award-winning breakthrough feature Blind, and screenplays for Joachim Trier’s Oslo, August 31st, and The Worst Person in the World, Eskil Vogt returns with this chilly, imaginative second feature, which fuses the familiar tropes of superhero origin stories with a real-world environment to fantastical and electrifying effect.
