The final instalment in Tartan Films’ trilogy of serial killer movies (following Ed Gein and Ted Bundy), Chuck Parello’s The Hillside Strangler provides a blackly comic slice of mock 1970sstyle exploitation in recounting the gruesome murders committed by two psychopaths operating in the Hollywood Hills at the tail end of the ’70s. C. Thomas Howell (The Hitcher) and Nicholas Turturro (NYPD Blue) give terrific performances as the cousins who team up to carry out the torture and slaughter of helpless prostitutes.
