 May 28th, 29th

The Embassy of Ireland and the Norwegian Film Institute are delighted to invite you to a film masterclass and seminar on 28 and 29 May with Thaddeus O’Sullivan, an award winning Irish director and cinematographer. The film masterclass, which is free of charge, will commence on 28 May at 18hrs at Cinemateket, Dronningens gate 16, 0105 Oslo and will involve a technical discussion of his early experimental work by Thaddeus O’Sullivan himself and Professor Lance Pettitt, Head of the School of Arts and Humanities at St Mary’s University, Twickenham.  The masterclass will finish with an interactive discussion and a screening of the BAFTA nominated short film The Woman Who Married Clark Gable.

On 29 May at 18:00, O’Sullivan’s film Stella Days will be making its cinematic debut in Norway. Starring Martin Sheen as a cinema obsessed priest in 1950s rural Ireland who struggles to balance his pastoral duties with his love of cinema, this film is a Norwegian-Irish joint production. O’Sullivan will be joined in a bilingual Q+A session prior to the film by the Norwegian producer, Finn Gjerdrum, and cinematographer, John Christian Rosenlund.

O’Sullivan has worked in the British and Irish film and TV industries since the late-1970s as an accomplished cinematographer, with shorter periods in the USA. Many notable feature films followed, including December Bride (1989), Nothing Personal (1995), Witness to the Mob (1999), Ordinary Decent Criminal (2000), The Heart of Me (2003), Into the Storm (2008) and his latest feature Stella Days. He has been an award winner at the European Film Awards, the IFTAs and numerous film festivals and his works have also been nominated for a BAFTA and an Emmy.
