STRANGE DAYS ARE THESE

Director: JAKE McKONE

IRELAND • 2008 • COLOUR • DIGITAL VIDEO • 50 MIN

Ireland on Sunday, the exciting monthly showcase for new Irish fiction and documentary films, continues with Strange Days are These.
Jake McKone is a chartered surveyor with a passion for filmmaking. After attending a five-week filmmaking course in New York, he wrote and directed his first film, Rearview. Strange Days are These is his first feature, a wry, cringe-making but also touching ‘mockumentary’ which describes a day in the life of micro-budget B-movie director Jamie Duffy as he is followed by a young reporter and her crew. Strange Days are These was shot over nine months with a cast and crew of 60, and was entirely self-financed. Warmly received at the Galway Film Fleadh and the Waterford Film Festival in 2008, the film is full of genuinely funny, cinematic in-jokes. Crucially, the character of Jamie, with his vulnerability and his passionate determination to make a film at any cost, is compelling indeed.

Director Jake McKone will be present to discuss his film.
