Irish Film Institute -SILENCE (EVENING COURSE: READING PICTURES)

SILENCE (EVENING COURSE: READING PICTURES)

Director: PAT COLLINS

87 minutes, Ireland- Germany, 2012, Drama, Director: Pat Collins

This film screened on Tuesday 24th  March 2015.

Despite the success of silent film tribute The Artist, and the popularity of live accompaniment to silent classics, it’s hard to imagine film without sound.

Taking a somewhat contrary approach, producer, sound engineer and lecturer Geoffrey Perrin will present Silence, an ambitious work defying current sound conventions, in which a sound recordist returns to Ireland to find silent places. Geoffrey will discuss sound design and the use of music in film, in particular the hitherto unrecognised 1930s work of Alfred Hitchcock. (Notes by Alice Butler)
