NT LIVE – PHÈDRE

By Jean Racine, in a version by Ted Hughes with Helen Mirren in the title role.
The IFI in association with the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival presents Phedre, as part of NT Live – a new initiative to broadcast live performances of National Theatre plays onto cinema screens around the world.
Consumed by an uncontrollable passion for her young stepson and believing Theseus, her absent husband, to be dead, Phedre confesses her darkest desires and enters the world of nightmare. When Theseus returns, alive and well, Phedre, fearing exposure, accuses her stepson of rape. The result is carnage.

The pilot season will launch with Nicholas Hytner’s production of Phedre starring Helen Mirren, Margaret Tyzack and Dominic Cooper, and will be performed live in London on Thursday, June 25, 2009, filmed in high definition and presented exclusively at participating movie theatres around the world.

Tickets cost €15.
