Night Lights

Eduardo (Hector Bonilla), an aged judge, is being retired. With much free time on his hands, he begins to sort through old papers and discovers a photograph of Tina (Helena Rojo), a singer whom he loved in his youth. The judge sets out to find Tina and discovers she has married a gangster. Director Sergio Muñoz Guemes’ melancholic film provides a sympathetic portrait of a man who discovers too late that dedication to his work has been at the expense of life’s emotional and romantic possibilities. It’s a universal story, but the film also contains some sharp observations on contemporary Mexican society.
