Kelly McGillis stars in Australian director Samantha Lang’s adaptation of Dorothy Porter’s novel about sexual attraction and power. Susie Porter plays the no-nonsense, hard-boiled female detective who is hired by a family to look for their missing daughter. Her search leads her to the girl’s poetry class and to the seductive teacher Diana (McGillis). Diana’s frank sexuality and academic conversation unhinge and intimidate Jill, but there is an instant attraction and the pair are soon involved in a steamy affair.
