Aditya Chopra’s follow-up to his hugely successful Dilwaale Dulhania Le Jaayenga (1995) brings together two male superstars of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan in a story of intergenerational conflict.

In a prestigious college in northern India, the traditionalist, disciplinarian head (Bachchan) clashes with the new, radical young music teacher (Shah Rukh). The conflict is given an added twist when the young lecturer falls for the headmaster’s beautiful daughter (Aishwarya Rai). But all ends well and even the old traditionalist’s heart melts when he meets a beautiful widow (Shefali Chaya).

Mohabbatein was the hit of the Diwali (Hindu new year) holiday, breaking Bollywood box office records for an opening weekend.
