Irish Film Institute -Lola Rennt

Lola Rennt

We continue our screenings of this exciting and fast-moving film. This third feature from German writer-director Tom Tykwer, tells the story of flame-haired Lola who is racing against time. She has 30 minutes to get 100,000 DM to save her boyfriend Manni from his ruthless boss. It’s a story about love, commitment and destiny but its use of animation, slow motion and video as well as a pulsating soundtrack combine to tremendous effect. In Germany it is regarded as one of the most significant films of recent times, with its memorable imagery being used in advertising, music video, and even political campaigning. It is the third in our German film series, run in conjunction with Elke Hughes, German Advisor to the Dept of Education. A study guide is available.
