For the first time, fiieducation is pleased to include a Spanish language film in our schools programme. This is the work of veteran director Jose Luis Cuerda. It is set in the months leading up to the Spanish Civil War and traces events through the eyes of a young, shy schoolboy, Moncho and the teacher who takes him under his wing.

The central relationship between child and father figure will be familiar to those who have seen the Italian film, Cinema Paradiso. However Moncho’s youth becomes increasingly irrelevant as the country moves towards civil war and he and his family are caught up in the dangerous atmosphere of mistrust that eventually pervades the town.
