Stuart Gordon, who’s best known to horror fans as the director of the original Re-Animator, has made his most intriguing and probably best film to date with King of the Ants. Based on the book by British author Charlie Higson, this is more a brutal thriller than a horror movie. An unflinching account of murder and its terrifying consequences, it tells of a young drifter who is asked to spy on and kill a complete stranger. The killer himself then becomes the victim of his cruel and sadistic employers. A festival highlight.
