Chronicling New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison’s (Kevin Costner) investigation into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, 1963, JFK, described by its director Oliver Stone as a ‘counter myth’ to the ‘fictional myth’ of the Warren Commission, which named Lee Harvey Oswald (Gary Oldman) as the lone assassin, weaves several conspiracy theories – some tendentious, others compelling – into a grand tapestry of paranoia.

Astonishing in its ambition and technical virtuosity, the film blends fictional material with archival footage, shuffling between super 8mm, 16mm, and 35mm film stocks, in both colour and black and white, while the frenetic, almost impressionistic editing technique adding layers of uncertainty to an already dizzying experience.

Boasting a memorable supporting cast that includes Kevin Bacon, Tommy Lee Jones, Laurie Metcalf, and Sissy Spacek, JFK is an extraordinary cinematic spectacle, whether you believe all its claims or not.
