Taking a wordless, visually poetic approach to its story, it is at once deeply mysterious and emotionally accessible in its imagining of these universal themes. A brother returns to his family home after a long absence to find his sister dead. As their identities merge, they find it impossible to re-enter their house, which seems possessed by an entity that is at once maternal and childlike. But darker energies lurk in the background… Solitaire is the latest feature by Maximilian Le Cain, one of Ireland’s most renowned experimental filmmakers. It stars Natasha Bourke and Aisling O’Connell, both multidisciplinary artists distinguished in film and performance art, and features sound by Karen Power, a Cork-based composer and frequent Le Cain collaborator.
