Ireland on Sunday is our monthly showcase for new Irish film.

Deadlift brings us inside the doors of World Gym, the last of Dublin’s traditional body-building establishments. Here there are no steam rooms, personal trainers or in-house juice bars, just hard-core dedicated body builders such as 67-year-old Christy Byrne, an international body building judge and friend of Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Tom Staunton who is preparing for his first major title by rapidly losing two stone in body fat. Their gruelling schedules, their tips and their stories unfold.

This screening coincides with National Amateur Body Building Association Mr. Ireland 2013 Competition. Director Patrick Cooney and Mr. Ireland competitors will be in attendance.
