Ireland on Sunday, the exciting monthly showcase for new Irish fiction and documentary films, continues with Circus Born.
Although Fossett’s Circus is the oldest continuously touring circus in the world, its story has, until now, remained largely untold. Seasoned Director of Photography Matt Skinner, in this his directorial debut, tells the story of the Fossett family. Since 1888, and through seven generations, they have worked hard to delight the people of Ireland and further afield with this most accessible and entertaining of artforms. The documentary looks behind the glitz and glamour and asks why would anyone choose to follow such a difficult and challenging way of life? Are they especially lucky or particularly cursed to be Circus Born?
