IFI & UNAPOLOGETIC: VISIBILITY AND REPRESENTATION IN FILM/MEDIA

Speakers: Blezzing Dada, Aisha Bolaji, Ashley Makombe and Esosa Ighodaro.

Contemporary Ireland comprises a mixture of different cultures and heritages. Yet, these visible differences are rarely celebrated in Irish screens/media in a positive light. Too often, the only time that we are introduced to individuals of Black and Irish dual identity is to act in the background or only talk about issues of race. There is a clear need for positive representation of individuals with a dual identity as they are contributing to the ever-changing cultural landscape of contemporary Ireland. The roundtable will address questions of the positive effects of seeing yourself represented on screen/media, the importance of visibility, the future trajectory of Irish cinema and the need for the arts to be a place that is inclusive of people from all cultures, races, sexuality, religions.

Ticket bundles for Black and Irish Shorts and Visibility and Representation in Film/Media are available for €10.00. Book in-person or over the phone on (01) 679 5744.
