We are delighted to welcome journalist and broadcaster Dorian Lynskey to the IFI to discuss his latest work, Everything Must Go: The Stories We Tell About The End Of The World. Following his previous cultural histories 33 Revolutions Per Minute (2011), a history of protest songs; and The Ministry Of Truth: A Biography Of George Orwell’s 1984 (2019), Lynskey’s new book traces apocalyptic visions of the end of it all from the Bible to James Cameron, touching upon Mary Shelley, H.G. Wells, and any number of literary, musical, and cinematic sources that betray our continued fascination with pessimistic depictions of the future of our species and planet, whether the end is brought about by our own activities or external forces that shatter the illusion of human control. Please join us for what is sure to be a fascinating and illuminating discussion.
Following his talk, Dorian Lynskey will also introduce the 20.20 screening of Don McKellar’s Last Night (1998) – on sale here!
