IFI FAMILY: THE MUPPETS TAKE MANHATTAN

Director: Frank Oz

94 minutes, U.S.A., 1984, Comedy/Drama/Musical

With everyone’s favourite showmen – and one particular showwoman – making a huge cinema comeback this spring, it’s time to play something from their back catalogue. This 1984 film sees the group of artistes trying to get their show on Broadway with much hilarity and adventure along the way.

Starring the original Muppet creator, Jim Henson, and Frank Oz who created and performed Miss Piggy and Fozzy Bear, most of the gang are here, including Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, Animal, Bert, Ernie and Cookie Monster. When their revue show called Manhattan Melodies is a hit, they are encouraged to take it to Broadway. However no one seems to want it, so Kermit is left alone pondering what to do. He meets up with Miss Piggy again, they get a producer but then he loses his memory. How will the friends find him in time for their Broadway debut? A rare trip down Muppet memory lane on the big screen.
