HOW TO CHANGE THE WORLD + SATELLITE Q&A Director: Jerry Rothwell 110 minutes, U.K.-Canada, 2015, Digital Book cinema tickets This film screened on Wednesday 9th September 2015. Featuring a wealth of rare material from the organisation’s own archive, How to Change the World is a documentary on the founding of Greenpeace. Taking its cue from the passive resistance idea of ‘bearing witness’, the group’s first action was to plan disruption of nuclear tests being carried out by the U.S. government. The attention this drew led the group to diversify its environmental concerns, ultimately leading to conflict between the founders as they debated a unifying mission statement. Far from a hagiography, the film is a fascinating depiction of how these internal difficulties were overcome in the service of the cause. Notes by Kevin Coyne The satellite Q&A panel will include the film’s director, Jerry Rothwell, Vivienne Westwood and other special guests.
